FIGHTHIV ORGANIZATION
Fighting the scourge
The FIGHTHIV grioup of YAO (Youthalive Organization) was founded with the objectives of devising new methods (through research) of dealing with HIV/AIDS pandemic with regards to stopping the progress of the virus through other means other than the use of Anti retroviral drugs (ARVs) which have been the major therapy used here but the efficacy of the use of the ARVs have been widely reduced due to the following factors
- Misuse due to incomprehension of administration and dosage by the uneducated affected persons.
- Unavailability of the drugs to persons affected with the virus living in rural communities.
ARVs are very expensive and since they are routine drugs, there has to be a great deal of financial responsibility on the part of persons affected with the virus.

AIMS
Due to the prevalence and upsurge of the virus, we had a need to extend the quality and quantity of our services so beginning from February 2005, The Fighthiv group extended it’s services to include
- Free counseling and test in our counseling/test centres.
- Treatment for opportunistic infections
- Distribution of ARVs
- Child and Orphan support
- Sensitization on the dangers, mode of transmission and prevalence of HIV/AIDS through seminars. media and outreach programmes
Counseling helps those that are afraid of going for a test to brace up emotionally and psychologically and they are told that even when they have the virus, life could still be normal with the proper therapy.
Preventive counseling helps adjust acts that could lead to contacting the virus like adequate protection during sex and the use of sterilized objects both clinically and domestically.
